2012 Scheduled hikes

If you are interested in joining any of these hikes please contact us. If these dates don't suit you and/or want to do a different hike, let us know and we will add it to this list.

  • February 17-19 (3 days / 2 nights): A hike in the Cathedral Peak Area, similar to the bell traverse, but tenting the first night instead of staying at Roland's Cave. The last day we can choose whether we'll go down the Mlabonja Pass or the Bell Traverse, depending on the group's confidence and the weather conditions. For more pictures of this hike you can visit our blog.
  • February 27-29 (3 days / 3 nights): Amphitheatre Hike. A more comfortable way of hiking staying at mountain lodges, we walk from the foothills of the Drakensberg to the head of the Tugela Falls, one of the highest in the world, right on top of Amphitheatre.
  • March 2-5 (4 days / 3 nights): Mafadi (3450m), South Africa's highest point, a great hike if you are training for Kilimanjaro or any other major peak, or for experiencing the impressive High Berg. For more pictures visit our blog.
  • March 7-9 (3 days / 2 nights): Vaalribbokkop Cave and Zulu Cave, a beautiful hike in the Little Berg staying in 2 caves.

Drakensberg Guided Hiking - Grand Traverse

The Grand Traverse is the mother of all hikes in the Drakensberg. With a total distance of about 230km and a total elevation gain over 9000m (higher than Everest), the preferred length of this trip is between 12 to 15 days. The hike runs along the top of the escarpment, keeping as close to the edge as possible for good vistas, and stays at an average altitude of 3000m, crisscrossing the border between Lesotho and South Africa. It’s a remote area, inhabited by the hardy Basotho shepherds, accompanied by their loyal dogs, who use these high lands for grazing for their sheep, goats, cows and horses. They leave the area during the winter months when it gets too cold for comfort.
